Covid DIY Mask

If you missed our online Instagram Sewing Instructions during our Sewing Club, you now follow the instructions here to make your own FACE MASK during Covid lock-down in simple steps & free pattern to download:
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
-tightly woven cotton fabric 40x40cm
-elastic or tape 5mm wide / 50cm long
-safety pin / scissors / pins / thread / tape measure/ sewing machine
We used the Mask 1 from Burda, that is simple to sew & offers a good fit. You can download the pattern free via the link. Check the instructions for further info how to wash the mask regularly and how to add an extra wire to secure the mask even tighter around your nose. From all the DIY Fabric Face masks these are def the best we found!
LETS GET STARTED:
-cut your fabric(s)
- SEAM ALLOWANCE 1CM : join your inner & outer layer curved seams
-snipping into the curved seam allowance every 2cm (do'nt cut into your seams!) before turning the seam allowance to one side & top stitching from the right side of Mask:
-Inner & outer mask layer are stitched:
- now we will join the inner & outer layer : facing both right sides to each other, we will stitch the top & bottom of the face mask (long ends)
-now we are turning the mask inside out & top stitch along the bottom & top edges of the mask: Next to the top edge of your mask you can stitch another parallel stitch line(1cm from edge) for an extra wire to be pulled in for a secure fit around your nose
-Now we create a tunnel on each side of the mask to pull the elastic through: by turning the outer fabric 2x over like this & top stitch
- now we cut the elastic in half and pull the elastic with the safety pin through the Tunnel. Securing both ends with a firm zigzag stitch
Pull the stitched elastic ends into the Tunnels to be covered:
DONE !
